Soul food is more than just crispy, golden fried chicken and catfish, smoky barbecue ribs and cornbread. These iconic foods are just a sliver of what historically comprised the traditional foods of African Americans.

Carla Hall, famous chef and TV personality, reflects on how these “celebration foods” have become so popular, whereas historic foods have faded, and how we can bring the full range of traditional soul food back to our plates.
